tunings

hiroshi (and all others),

always had luck with open G for 'look what love has done', using the C chord shape in the open first position for most of it.......a little pulling off/hammering on whatnot........

i have!

i saw him play this beautiful song on his most recent tour and the tuning was, read this twice , STANDARD i.e. eadgbe

Hiroshi, if you're out there, i have a recording of this also (San Francisco) which is yours if you will confirm the tuning.

the song starts with:
0
0
0
2
3
3

and resolves to an E minor

good luck

Standard Tuning...

It's true, Chris did sometimes play in Standard Tuning...

"God Thing" is in standard tuning (love that one!)

I think also "Power Down" as well, but you'd have to check on that one... Dan?

Peace,
Danielle

Vertical Desert

Thanks cochise!

With your advice, now I found it is Standard Tuning.
Then, I like to add that the tuning was 5 frets' lowered
< B-E-A-D-F#-B > when played solo such as the version out of
Rocket House 2nd CD (Fargo Record release) or at solo gigs.
The first Chord used for the solo version is to be:
1B 0
2F# 3
3D 0
4A 2
5E 3
6B (3)
(The sound of 9th is a bit similar as God Thing.)

I would guess Chris might regard the Standard Tuning as
a kind of open tuning : E-minor tuning
What do you think ?

thank you, hiroshi!! after all the help you've given me (and so many others) with your tunings/tabs/demos, etc., its a real pleasure to feel i've helped you. and you're absolutely right- he did use standard tuning as an open E minor (or in this case, B minor) tuning. i think this is why it is hard to tell at first. it doesn't sound like standard tuning, because he didn't use it like standard tuning. it sounds like his other stuff. as far as the song goes, i'm playing:

B 0
F#3
D 0
A 2
E 3
B 3

and sliding the same fingering up to the 5th fret, back down, and resolving on the Em fingering. on the word "climb", i'm moving the same chord up to the 8th with a 1/2 step bend on the A. but what is the chord on "living with the law could come apart"??
sounds like:

B 0
F#0
D 12
A 10
E 12
B 13

but i also hear the 12th fret on the F#. also, this chord doesn't resolve well to the next chord :

B 0
F# 0
D 2
A 3
E 3
B 1

i would be very grateful to hear your ideas on this (also on my fireroad attempt on another thread, with very similar fingerings).
looking forward to it, hiroshi. and thanks again.

Any chance he did Guns and Dolls in standard E?
I kinda figured it out that way myself but never sure.
