I think the film will paint a picture of the artist.
After watching the trailer,
i cant wait to see this film. I think Jonathan Mayer has captured the feel "powerful and raw as Chris would like it," as Dan mentioned in an earlier post.
i know very little about Chris Whitley other than his music, which has moved and inspired me.
it is unlike everything else i have ever heard.
It is a soundscape of notes, empty of clutter.
it is as natural as a tree or a river, it is both young, yet as old the hills.
I cant explain other than, guess that if you read this, you probably know too, as you too are here in this forum reading posts by people you dont know!!!
It seems that Chris payed a price for his values of creative freedom, payed the price of being a true artist.
Ahead of his time, like so many poets, painters and musicians before him.
The rest of the world will catch up in the end.
and then act like they always knew!
What is art if we ristrict the boundaries of creative freedom in the artist?
Maybe sony can answer that?
